We weren't the only ones to go all crazy over "Winterdress" last month, the stunningly beautiful (and tearful) new track of our dearest Kelsie Brown aka Red Alder; and if you ever feel like you recovered from the deep sadness of that winter lullaby, we've got more melancholy for your ears to seep into. After Nate McKee put up his gorgeous debut record Orca last year under his moniker The Answer Page, new side projects such as Changemod has taken shape in the shadow of his growing success, and now most recently with (you guessed right) the sad girl named Kelsie Brown. Nate personally played the me the track as we drove towards the airport on Houston's endless highway last week, with thunderstorms building up a fitting scenery in the horizon — a perfect mood for this superb shoegaze jam. Soft Metals: “Implanted Visions”.

Came onto this a little late, but here's an enjoyable song from the Los Angles, California via Portland, Oregon duo Soft Metals titled "Implanted Visions". It was released by Electronic Encounters as a part of their "Music Inspired By Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" (The Special Edition) compilation, which was made available March 5. In case you missed it, you can still download a free copy of the entire album on the EE bandcamp, but before you download, go ahead stream "Implanted Visions" below. It kind of makes you wish you were cruising in a spaceship convertible. Mister Lies & Different Sleep: “Safety Net (feat. Jessica Blanchet)”.

On May 8th Absent Fever, the free digital release label/music collective started by Eloise of verb/re/verb and Tyler of Flashlight Tag, will be releasing a collaborative EP with the Chicago-based producers, Mister Lies & Different Sleep. "Safety Net (feat. Jessica Blanchet)" is the lead single off the upcoming EP. The song possesses that sleepily elated sort of feeling that follows two lovers from a long night on the dance floor to the bedroom. A steady 4/4 kick buried deep beneath the pillow then mattress then floor carries the listener past the halfway point before the rapidly panning synth takes control. Call it Ambient Gospel, Chicago Bass, or Dream House, it's a great listen that will swallow you up, particularly on headphones. Ghostandthesong: “Ou Inme”.

Very worthwhile new instance of "surrealistic pop" by Berlin-based Ghostandthesong, surely one of the most interesting projects of the musical outsider scene in town right now. "Ou Inme" happily and aimlessly warbles away, built around an oddly pronounced bass part, until a supremely weird vocal sample sets in that could be in Japanese or Korean, or something entirely different. Doesn't really matter in fact as this is just a whole lot of fun, and oh yes, it also comes with chirping birds so you know that spring is here. The song's weirdness is only surpassed by this very d.i.y. video that accompanies the whole affair. Yes. "Ou Inme" is part of Ghostandthesong's Escapes EP, out now for free on Bad Panda Records. UK-based producer and NFOP favorite Sam Martin aka Samaritan hit us up this morning with this stellar new tune named "Convinced", gloomy and slow burning with a slightly minimalist feel. Martin keeps dropping new tracks but we're not sure if any of those in fact indicate another proper release anytime soon. For what it's worth, this one's sure album material. Jerry Paper: “Vol. 1”.

Jerry Paper used to enchant our realms as that melancholic cyborg named Zonotope™, but as reported back last October, this project has faded away, sharing the fate of many a extraterrestrial fantasy hero. Enter Jerry, the new guise of Brooklyn-based producer L.W. Nathan, equally weird, still relying on muffled retro-ish synth tinkering, and, most of all, equally great. Jerry Paper's first collection of tunes, rather aptly entitled Vol. 1, is out on cassette via Digitalis Ltd but apparently already sold out. However, you may stream it in its entirety below and purchase it digitally over here. Plus, a Vol. 1 without a second coming wouldn't really make all that much sense, right? Recommended material this is. Update: We've just received notice that Digitalis still has some copies on stock. Future Shuttle: “Crystal Arrow”.

Alexandra Carlota Velasco recently went down to Mexico City to shoot a portrait of Sofia Ortiz for New York-based Bullett Magazine, the first part in a video series profiling the proponents of Mexico City's emerging art scene. The music for the piece was made by New York duo/quartet Future Shuttle (this of course sounds like Jessa Farkas and Camilla Padgitt-Coles alone), an intriguing and perfectly matching, aptly restrained composition of layered, looping synth drones. After a bunch of cassettes on various labels, including a split tape with Thoughts On Air early last year on Hooker Vision, Franklin Teagle and Ryan McGill aka Brooklyn via Georgia experimental synth duo Afterlife will put out their full-length Celestial Habitat tomorrow again via said LaGrange, Georgia imprint, this time on vinyl, thus marking their first LP release (at least if Discogs is not mistaken). Below, watch the Grant Evans-made video for album track "Space Memory" featuring mesmerizing macro shots of geodes, crystals and other rocks and minerals, perfectly complementing Afterlife's meandering yet slowly rising, intricately textured drones.
